During the X-ray, low levels of radiation pass through your body. Different tissues and organs absorb varying amounts of radiation, which creates an image of your chest. Denser areas, like bones, absorb more radiation, appearing as lighter shades on the image, while softer tissues, like the lungs, absorb less and appear darker.

It’s important to note that while X-rays involve radiation, the amounts used are minimal and considered safe. Contrary to some misconceptions, the low radiation levels in a chest X-ray do not pose a significant risk of cell mutations or cancer.
