This blood test measures the level of 17-hydroxy progesterone, which is important in the adrenal gland?s production of sex hormones. It is primarily used to diagnose congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), particularly in newborns and as part of the evaluation for adrenal insufficiency.
