Amylase Enzymatic, Serum

This test measures the level of amylase, an enzyme involved in carbohydrate digestion, often used to diagnose pancreatitis. Elevated amylase levels may result from acute injury to the pancreas, pancreatic duct blockage, or salivary gland conditions. Symptoms generally include severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and tenderness in the upper abdomen.
